Prof. Awuku received a BSC in Human Biology and MBChB from the School of Medical Sciences-Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology and a Postgraduate Certificate in Clinical Research and Evidence-Based Medicine and Anti- Retroviral Therapy at the Prince Leopold Institute of Tropical Medicine, Antwerp, Belgium. 

He is a Fellow of the West African College of Physicians and the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons. He completed a WGO fellowship at the Groote Schuur Hospital, Cape Town, South Africa. He is a World Endoscopy Organization Star and currently President of the Ghana Association for the Study of Liver and Digestive Diseases (GASLIDD) and the Vice president Hepatitis Society of Ghana. He is a clinician, a teacher and a researcher. 

He is the Head, of the Department of Medicine and Therapeutics, School of Medicine, University of Health and Allied Sciences, Ho, Ghana. 

Currently the Chair, Faculty of Internal Medicine, Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons.
